Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

I have to say I enjoyed my meal here and so did my husband. If you're looking for Tex Mex this is not it. This is California style Mexican just what we expected. The young woman waiting on us was very polite and brought our drinks and chips and salsa in a timely manner. Both were pretty good. We also had a chile rellenos for an appetizer that was also good and we both shared fajitas for two everything done nicely cooked hot and brought out very quickly. This is a good meal.

I'm no maven when it to comes to Mexican food but I enjoyed this very much. I ordered the fajitas with steak and although they were a little greasy there was enough for a meal tomorrow and I would order them again. Somewhere on the side plate must've been a jalapeño pepper which really nearly killed me.

Well we came back had great service and really enjoyed the food! Many many great looking dishes! All four of our dinners were great I know! Fun atmosphere. Beer cold and good. White wine was in a very small glass is our only complaint.

You know, it's totally ok and I'll keep returning. Our first visit was really bad and we didn't return for quite awhile. They were also very aloof towards our royal Pekingese albeit that may be a town rule. Sure, people can walk all around the town square drinking and getting drunk and drive their golf carts hammered, but your pooch can't sit with you outside...yep, makes sense. Anyway, this next visit was much better and the food is solid. The chips are actually quite fresh and warm while the salsa was tasty. The other selections are exactly what one expects to find at Mexican restaurants. It also does have nice al fresco dining.

I added the photo of the plate I had which was the Pollo A La Parilla. It was a good dish. I rated it a 3 star due to the kids menu. Ordered the burrito with rice/beans and the plate came back with the burrito being smothered in cheese and a sauce. It was not listed on the menu. Luckily my son ate the food but please ask questions in reference the kids menu if your child is a picky eater.

I sat outside and enjoyed the chips and salsa! When my food came out it was extremely over exaggerated hot. My tostada was not crunchy at all, it was soggy. And the rice wasn't fresh. I was disappointed.

We are residents of The Villages and have eaten here a few times. The last three times have steadily gotten worse. I'm not sure if there is a new cook/chef, but the food has been bland and somehow flavorless. I usually look forward to wrapping what I don't eat and eating it later however, the last time we went I threw everything out and didn't even want to waste a take-home box. I hate to put down a local eatery but the truth is the truth... Sorry!

Tried this place for lunch the other day and was disappointed with the Taco Salad. It wasn't the freshest lettuce and lacked imagination it was strictly lettuce and ground beef topped with a small amount of guacamole and cheddar. Chips and salsa served on arrival, the salsa was good but the chips tasted blah. The restaurant has other locations in Florida so it must have some following so I will try it again on a return visit, but for now it's just "okay".

The salsa was from a jar. The chips - on the stale side. Had the chicken fajitas that were just ok. Very greasy. I don't expect this business to do well if they don't get some fresh ingredients. Expensive for what you get.

Mexican food is essentially the same five ingredients prepared in different arrangements. The ingredients are also very inexpensive..... So in my opinion, even if the menu items are priced reasonably the profit margins are pretty good. In all honesty, this IS the best Mexican food in the villages.... But the prices could be a little better.

Props for having Huevos Rancheros and preparing them correctly. You would be surprised how many places don't carry this classic Mexican breakfast dish... and when they do they are runny and disgusting. The refills on the drinks could have been faster (I drink water like nuts) but besides that the service wasn't bad.

Service was really bad... It took along time for someone to serve us even though there were plenty of seats . when we received our food I asked for napkins and our waiter did not come back. I eventually had go go inside to get our napkins. Food was ok nothing to rant about , at least it was warm.

While it's not authentic Texas or Southern California quality Mexican (I have lived in both places), for central Florida, Ay Jalisco is pretty good. I have tried many different Mexican restaurants all over FL and typically they are really poor. I have eaten here at least 5 times and I am always satisfied. My favorite is the enchiladas verdes. For an appetizer, the guacamole is fresh and they give you a decent portion. The chips are warm & crispy but the salsa should be chunkier (more diced tomato, onion, etc). The salsa is the right level of heat for the average person. The service is usually great and very friendly. Prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is really nice. I recognize that a 4 star rating might be a little on the generous side but it's certainly better than a 3 star (especially for Mexican food in FL). Give it a try, I doubt you will dislike it and you might just find a fun new place to eat. :-)

The chips were worse than Tostitos. The salsa was watery with no taste. Ordered the chicken tortilla soup - everywhere else I had that, the broth was thicker - not here - just like normal chicken soup - kinda bland. They didn't bring any dishes for the chips so we used our hands to catch the dripping salsa - yech!. I had the fish tacos - I have to admit there is great consistency with their food - bland. The mahi mahi was tiny pieces - can barely tell it's fish - definitely the worse fish tacos I have ever had. The Corona was great but that's because they didn't make it. My dining mates who had a burrito and a combo fajita - no complaints from them. The discounted house margaritas (it was Tuesday) were OK because they were discounted but not at the regular price of almost $5 a glass. The prices are very reasonable but since dining out is more of a treat for me, I would pay a bit more for better quality. In terms of service, the waiter was nice but we had to flag him down when we needed things. The one time he did come by was two minutes after we received our food. Should be more proactive in stopping by - doesn't take long to say "How's things?".

Good chips and yummy salsa with just the right amount of heat. You can order queso dip (plain) or with jalapenos. It tastes great! Freshly prepared food, generous portions. Large menu but many specials available. I like the L-5, a plate with two tacos, rice and beans. I get soft tacos with shredded chicken, plus loads of fresh lettuce, tomato, and cheese on top. Friendly service, clean environment.

Great mexican restaurant, does not compare to the one that was short lived in Spanish springs that had $3 top shelf margaritas and $5 lunches but a fine replacement. I'm confused with people complaining about prices, the lunches were around 6-7 bucks and I had a dinner with two HUGE giants chimichangas for 10 bucks. They were good, I had trouble stopping myself from eating them. 4.50 house margaritas with a generous amount of tequila and they bring you different spiciness levels of salsa per request. Service was nothing to rave about, but our server was very friendly. The most expensive dishes on their menu were a few featured dishes that topped at $16 bucks but most dishes were under $12. Props for the really cool lighted metal sun sculpture next to the bar.
